Boosting our vital energy comes from consistent breathing and mental and physical flow. We will heighten this concept with Kalari Vinyasa, a fluid, strong, and creative flow that blends yoga and Kalarippayattu, one of the oldest martial arts forms. I learned the sequence from Shiva Rea, a well-known global yoga teacher and innovator. She studied directly from the Kalari lineage. I also had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Kalarippayattu with teacher Hans Wolfgramm during his intensive workshops back in 2017.
Kalari Vinyasa intends to prepare for Kalarippayattu. However, as Shiva says, this vinyasa can be enjoyed as an “invitation to flow like a river.”
Everyone is welcome. Stamina is required; however, the pace is slow, and the invitation to rest is permanent.
I selected a venue that provides a perfect artistic setting for our practice.
I propose you wear red to evoke the ritual, as this practice is traditionally done in a sacred space with a red clay floor.
Bring your yoga mat and a block if you need it.
